Designed to Enlighten

Background
Light Years Ahead attended the Design in Mental Health (DIMH) exhibition to present their comprehensive range of healthcare lighting solutions, including the launch of their new Lucca Melagen Circadian Rhythm Light Fitting.
The stand needed to do more than simply display products. It had to showcase a variety of wall and ceiling-mounted light fittings while clearly demonstrating the benefits of Melagen technology to a diverse audience.
Initial ideas from the client centred around illuminated light boxes with printed information and a large, exercise-based competition to attract visitors. With a prime position directly opposite the coffee shop, footfall was guaranteed — but the challenge was encouraging passers-by to stop, engage and understand the value of the technology on display.
DIMH is predominantly attended by nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals — an audience that may not instantly recognise the technical differences between lighting solutions. This made it essential to create a stand that was both educational and visually captivating.
The Solution
While light boxes and competitions were a natural fit for a lighting brand, they would have taken up valuable floor space. Drawing on many years of experience using a modular framework system, we knew the stand could be elevated into a more experiential and sustainable solution.
A clean, white inset was designed to directly compare a standard bulb with Light Years Ahead’s Melagen technology. Positioned side by side, the contrast was immediate and impactful, allowing visitors to have an authentic demonstration and experience the difference first-hand.
To further contextualise the products, a hospital bed head was created to demonstrate another lighting fixture in a familiar clinical setting, fully dressed with a hospital blanket and pillow. Ceiling-mounted lights were also showcased, supported by a striking corner pelmet set at 3 metres high, significantly increasing visibility across the exhibition hall.
Each lighting zone was given generous space, enabling the Light Years Ahead team to comfortably engage with groups and discuss products in detail. A large 65” TV screen provided additional information for visitors waiting to speak to the team, reducing the need for excessive printed graphics and keeping the stand uncluttered.
To complete the experience, a welcoming, custom-shaped counter was designed with built-in colour-chasing LEDs positioned behind the brand’s vibrant logo. This subtle but effective feature reinforced the message that Light Years Ahead are the experts in healthcare lighting.
